NYCET recognizes that, in order to create lasting change in the state of New York, our communities must organize.

As a result, NYCET plays a key role in supporting the work of our partner organizations that are on the frontlines, fighting for the issues that impact communities of color, immigrants, poor and working-class people, and youth.

With this understanding, we encourage our partners to develop integrated civic engagement campaigns so they can leverage their resources and implement their work strategically.

How we do it

  • A core aspect of NYCET’s work is to provide our partners with access to data and tools that enable them to effectively reach and build relationships with their communities. NYCET is able to offer free or low-cost access to ensure every organization we partner with can access these tools, no matter their budget.

All NYCET partners have access to NGP VAN, digital outreach tools, data dashboards, custom maps, and program experimentation, as well as direct data and tools support from our staff.

  • To increase partner capacity, the NYCET team provides a range of at-large trainings and one- on-one coaching sessions tailored to fit the needs of partners.

Since 2016, NYCET has developed a participant-centered pedagogy that elevates the lived experiences of participants in an effort to make our offerings accessible to our diverse network of partners.

  • NYCET coordinates collaborative field programs across the state. We support partners in building their campaigns, ensuring that programming is not duplicative, and creating a space for peer learning and program evaluation. This collaborative model is what has enabled us to test tactics and tools, build capacity, and train leaders.

  • We must ensure fair and equitable access and representation in addition to engaging voters

in elections. It is with this understanding that NYCET has played a leadership role in convening coalitions to ensure an accurate census count, fair representation in redistricting, and reforms to our voting system.

  • In 2023, NYCET formally launched its Data and Organizing Integration (DOI) Leadership Development program. DOI grew out of a desire to deepen the work from early iterations of leadership development programs hosted at NYCET, including its Leadership Pipeline and Virtual Mobilization & Field Organizing program, which trained 130 leaders across the state.

The goal of DOI is to bring together participants from across New York to explore what organizing means for their work and communities. More importantly, we aim to delve into the fundamentals of organizing, demystify the ways in which data and tools can inform or enhance organizing work, and build a community of colleagues working for justice in New York.
